Gagan Narang Wins Bronze at London Olympics, CCIL Celebrates!
On 30th July 2012, Indian star shooter and a long-time Country Club member Gagan Narang made us proud, yet again! But this time, it was nothing less than an Olympic Bronze!
On Monday, Gagan Narang won 2012 Olympic Bronze medal in Men’s 10m air rifle event held at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich – London. The Padma Shri and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award winner started his professional career in 1997 and since then he has won many international rifle shooting medals in various competitions including Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and ISSF World Cup Championship.
At very early age, Gagan’s parents noticed his interest in rifle shooting while holidaying in Chennai, where using an air rifle, he aimed and shot every ‘target balloon’ at an amusement stall on famed Marina beach. To encourage Gagan’s interest in shooting, his parents who live in Hyderabad introduced him to professional shooting in city’s only private rifle shooting gallery at the Country Club in Begumpet.
In a recent interview to a leading daily, Gagan Narang’s first coach Mr. K Niranjan Reddy recalls his memories of noticing 13 year old Gagan Narang’s curiosity for rifle shooting at Country Club and how he trained the Olympic medal winner.
The Country Club family is proud of Gagan Narang’s achievements and we congratulate him on winning the prestigious Olympic medal for the country!
